Pick Joy Daily
Lake Preston, South Dakota
Lake Preston, South Dakota
Hi, I’m Morgan, the heart behind Back Four Flower Farm. For nearly two years, my family and I have been growing joy one bloom at a time on our little slice of prairie just outside Lake Preston, SD. We’re in our second season of sharing flowers with our community through colorful you-pick nights and fresh flower subscriptions. We grow with the seasons, with intention, and always with joy.
Each summer brings something new. This year, we’re growing a rainbow of blooms—zinnias, cosmos, poppies, sunflowers, snapdragons, celosia, billy balls, bee balm, coreopsis, and black-eyed Susans. Since different flowers bloom at different times, no two visits are ever the same. Whether you come pick a bouquet or subscribe for a season of flowers, there’s always something beautiful in bloom.
You’re invited to join us for you-pick nights from mid-July to early September. Sunday evening sessions will be posted here and on social media. Want something more personal? We also host private you-pick nights for groups, celebrations, or company outings. Just reach out through the form below. We’d love to have you!
We believe beauty starts with care. Care for the earth, for our community, and for the small patch of prairie we call home.
Here’s how we grow:
No chemicals. Just soil, sunshine, and a lot of love.
Direct sown. Seeds planted straight into the ground, letting nature set the pace.
Drought-tolerant blooms. We choose hardy, resilient varieties that thrive with less.
We stay small and hands-on, tending every bloom ourselves. We grow with the seasons, offering fresh arrangements through flower subscriptions and you-pick events. Everything we plant is grown with intention, care, and a love for what flowers can do.
Many farmers talk about the “back forty.” Around here, we’ve always measured things a little differently.
Morgan grew up on this acreage just outside Lake Preston. Her parents lovingly called the small pasture behind the trees “the back four.” Just a few quiet acres, but they meant everything.
After fifteen years away, Morgan and her husband Eric returned in 2024 with their son, ready to grow something new in a place that already felt like home. Today, Back Four Flowers is rooted in that same pasture, offering local blooms and wide-open joy.
The name is a nod to small beginnings, slow beauty, and the belief that something simple can grow into something meaningful.
Everything we do grows from a few simple beliefs:
Joy
Whether it’s one bloom or a whole bucket, flowers have a way of making people smile. We grow joy on purpose and love sharing it.
Sustainability
We follow the rhythm of the seasons, avoid chemicals, and choose varieties that thrive in our environment. Our practices put care for the land, the water, and future bloomers first.
Connection
We're here to cultivate more than petals and stems. Whether you're picking your own bouquet or receiving one at your doorstep, we hope you feel more connected. To this place, to others, and to the beauty around you.
Please reach us at morgan@backfourflowers.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
A you-pick is a chance to pick and create your own bouquet, right from our field. Enjoy a peaceful stroll through over 15 varieties of flowers while music plays, birds chirp, and the sun sets over the Kingsbury County prairie. You might even meet a barn kitten or two.
When our public you-pick schedule opens, you’ll be able to reserve your spot and choose your container size through a form on our website. Stay tuned for updates!
